Unique Ways to Give this Holiday Season
This holiday season, give the gift of hope to those affected by type 1 diabetes by exploring meaningful ways to support our mission. Whether through our Giving Machines, where every donation goes directly toward vital T1D resources, or through Holiday Assistance, which brightens the lives of families facing financial challenges, your generosity can make a real difference. Together, we can ensure that T1D children, adults, and their families have the support they need while bringing the world one step closer to a cure for T1D.
1) Giving Machines—The Vending Machine With a Heart
WHO: The Children’s Diabetes Foundation has been selected to be one of 2024’s charities featured in the Light the World’s Giving Machines.
WHAT: These vending machines are designed to make giving accessible, fun, and impactful. Instead of dispensing items for purchase, the machines offer a way for people to donate tangible goods to those in need.
WHERE: Cherry Creek North – Winter Wanderland Holiday Market at 2nd Avenue and Fillmore, Denver, CO 80206.
WHEN: Machines operate 24/7 from November 13th through January 5th.
WHY: Participating nonprofit organizations receive 100% of all donations.
Items that will be available to donate in the machines:
Diabetes Book | $10
Give a child with type 1 diabetes (T1D) a guide to understanding their diagnosis.
Blood Glucose Meter | $25
Provide a struggling family with the tools to monitor their T1D child’s glucose levels.
Insulin | $50
Support a T1D child in need with their monthly insulin costs.
Diabetes Soccer Camp | $120
Send a child with T1D to a sports camp for kids with diabetes.
Emergency Glucagon | $250
Provide a life-saving injection kit for someone with dangerously low blood sugar.
2) Holiday Assistance
Thank you for making a difference this holiday season! Every year, The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation provides meal and gift assistance for patients and families at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.
Your gift will be used to assist the 133 families and 371 children in need who applied for assistance. Oftentimes, this assistance is the difference between families being able to have a meal on the table for the holidays and gifts for the children to enjoy.
Did you know?
- Over 45% of Barbara Davis Center patients are uninsured or underinsured, with 35% living below the poverty level
- On average, the first year of care for a newly diagnosed type 1 is $20,000
- Type 1 diabetes is the only disease where patients and caregivers are making life-and-death insulin dosing decisions, and they are doing it every hour of every day
Join us in sponsoring gifts for type 1 children as part of the Holiday Assistance program. Families receive a $50 gift card for each Thanksgiving and December dinner. Type 1 children and their siblings each receive a $40 gift card to spend on something they will love!
