Programs Overview
CDF's programs support T1D patients and families
In addition to the studies and programs of the Barbara Davis Center, the Children’s Diabetes Foundation operates the following programs to support those living with type 1 diabetes.
These awesome youths, ages 6-18, are the face of CDF and exude a positive attitude about T1D while educating and creating awareness for diabetes. Advocates get together for quarterly social events to promote friendship, support, and fun!
This three-day camp in the summer is hosted by the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the Colorado Soccer Foundation. Camp features soccer, arts and crafts, team building, and more!
The Young Professionals (YP) program will plan cocktail hours, volunteer opportunities, and social events to encourage participation and networking for members in their communities. The YP program is open to anyone between the ages of 21-39 and for people who have a passion for helping others while having fun and building connections. You don’t have to be a type 1 diabetic to join this group!
Through an application process each year, The Guild grants higher education scholarships to patients of the Barbara Davis Center. We have seen students go on to be doctors, nurses, lawyers, hairdressers and mechanics, to mention a few.
The Children's Diabetes Foundation conducts a widespread campaign for awareness of symptoms, treatments, and life skills for diabetes. We endeavor to find ways to continuously inform the public concerning the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes, in hopes of stimulating awareness and diagnosis.
This program, supported in part by the Guild of CDF, assists families in times of exceptional need. This includes purchasing diabetes supplies, helping with travel expenses to get to appointments, and other supplemental funds as necessary. Proper supplies, education, and care allow a patient to properly manage diabetes and by bettering their care now, their risk for long term complications is much lower. This program also provides additional assistance during the holiday season (see Holiday Assistance program below).
This program provides financial support for pregnant women with type 1 diabetes (T1D) to ensure they have the proper technology, supplies, and associated appointment funds to ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby.
The program serves at-risk pregnant women who do not have access to Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems and other related resources to improve their diabetes care.
Every year, The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation provides meal and gift assistance for patients and families at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. Your gift will be used to assist the 93 families and 276 children in need who applied for assistance. Often times, this assistance is the difference between families being able to have a meal on the table for the holidays and gifts for the children to enjoy.
Jewels for Hope was started by parents of children with diabetes. The volunteer committee of The Guild collects pre-loved jewelry and hosts sales that benefit the Children’s Diabetes Foundation to support research, clinical care, and programs at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.
The Children’s Diabetes Foundation holds diabetes support groups once a month for anyone who is affected by type 1 diabetes – whether you are the type 1 yourself or the friend, family, loved one, or caregiver of a type 1. All ages and all relationships to type 1 diabetes are invited.
Get ready for a night of Halloween fun at Boo Bash, an exciting FREE event hosted by The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation! Designed for patients of the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes and their siblings (ages 2-12), this magical event takes place on the Colorado School of Mines campus and is packed with festive activities.
