Diabetes Awareness Month is observed every November throughout the United States to bring attention to the disease and those affected by it. World Diabetes Day (November 14) was created by the International Diabetes Foundation and the World Health Organization in 1991 in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. It is the largest diabetes awareness campaign, reaching over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries.

In My Type 1 Era: A Campaign for Diabetes Awareness Month

In My Type 1 Era

This November, in honor of Diabetes Awareness Month, the Children’s Diabetes Foundation is launching a campaign that shines a light on the unique journeys of those living with type 1 diabetes. At the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, we believe in empowering individuals, families, and communities to share their stories, spread awareness, and advocate for a world where everyone with type 1 diabetes can live without limits.

What Does “In My Type 1 Era” Mean?

“In My Type 1 Era” is more than a campaign—it’s a movement. It’s about embracing every moment, challenge, and victory that comes with living with type 1 diabetes. Whether you’re newly diagnosed, a long-time warrior, or a supporter of someone with type 1 diabetes, this era is yours. We’re declaring, “I Can Do It With a Broken Pancreas” because living with type 1 diabetes means facing each day with resilience, strength, and determination.

We see type 1 as an “era” because we believe it won’t last forever. Our hope and dedication fuel our belief that there will eventually be a cure for type 1 diabetes. Until that day comes, this era represents the courage, perseverance, and hope of everyone affected by type 1 diabetes.

Join the Movement

We invite you to participate in this campaign and help us raise awareness throughout November. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Share Your Story: Use the hashtag #InMyType1Era on social media to share your personal experiences with type 1 diabetes. Whether it’s a milestone, a daily routine, or a powerful moment, your story can inspire others and bring much-needed attention to this cause.
  • Fundraise: Host a fundraiser or donate to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation. Your contributions will go directly to supporting prevention, research, and care for those living with type 1 diabetes.
  • Spread the Word: Share our campaign with your friends, family, and community to help spread awareness.
  • Attend Our Events: From visiting buildings lit up blue for diabetes to attending fun events, join us for special experiences throughout the month of November! More details coming soon.

Why It Matters

Each month, nearly 130 more children in America are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, a lifelong condition that affects people of all ages. Despite the challenges, those living with type 1 diabetes show incredible strength and resilience. By raising awareness and supporting research, we can improve the lives of those with type 1 diabetes and work towards a future where no one must face this condition alone.

Your involvement in the “In My Type 1 Era” campaign can have a lasting impact. Whether you’re sharing your story, donating, or simply educating yourself and others, every action counts. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of millions affected by type 1 diabetes.
